The antlers are the elk's crowning glory! Did you know a male elk grows a brand-new set every single year, then sheds them and grows them back even bigger? Elk, deer or moose?
The word "elk" can be confusing! In North America an elk is a huge member of the deer family (also called a wapiti), while in Europe "elk" is the name for what Americans call a moose. Either way, it's one of the biggest deer of all. A fun fact to share: in autumn, male elk make a loud, high, trumpet-like call known as "bugling" to call to the herd — you can hear it echoing for miles.
