Desert crafts and a handprint camel
Build a whole desert scene: colour your camel in sandy browns, then add golden dunes, a bright sun and a few palm trees. For a fun keepsake, make a handprint camel — the palm becomes the body and the fingers become the legs. Glue your camel to a craft stick for a puppet, or stand a caravan of them up in a row.
One hump or two?
Here's a great question to explore: how many humps does a camel have? A camel with one hump is called a "dromedary" (or Arabian camel), and one with two humps is a "Bactrian" camel. And those humps don't store water like many people think — they're actually full of fat, which the camel uses for energy when food is scarce. No wonder the camel is nicknamed the "ship of the desert"!
C is for Camel, and the Nativity
Camels are great for the letter "C", and they also have a special place at Christmas — camels are often shown in the Nativity scene, carrying the three wise men across the desert. For more hot-climate animals, add a fennec fox, a meerkat or a lizard, and explore the full animals collection.
